Gerry R. Johnson, aged 87, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Saturday, February 25, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Minnie Johnson; brother, Gene; and his wife of 57 years, Mardelle. Surviving are two special nieces, Sandra Oosterink of Jension, and Carolyn Johnson of San Diego; sisters-in-law, Cliftine Meredith of Charlevoix, and Carol Rozelle of Hudsonville; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerry graduated from South High, and enlisted in The United States Army, proudly serving his country while stationed in Japan during WWII. After returning to Michigan, Gerry went to work for General Motors where he spent 30 years before his retirement in 1980. Throughout retirement Gerry enjoyed woodcarving, and was an active member of the Woodland, Grand Valley, Ionia and Greenville Clubs. He was also a Member of The American Legion, Post 356, and enjoyed playing cards with Wyoming Senior Citizens and spending time with neighbors, friends and family. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. with Funeral Services immediately following at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Reyers North Valley Chapel with Rev. Chuck VanLente officiating.
