On August 9, 1965, Betty married her third husband James Brown. Together, they raised their combined families in Grand Rapids, MI.
Betty was a talented seamstress. She often made her own clothing, including her own mother of the bride dress for her daughter’s wedding. Betty also was known to bake cakes for birthdays and weddings for her family and friends.
As an avid John Wayne fan, Betty was often enjoying a western program on TV. She also had an extensive Elvis memorabilia collection, as he was her all-time favorite musician.
Betty’s favorite place to eat and catch up with her kids and grandkids was Big Boy. She would enjoy a plate of waffles (with extra whipped cream!) with anyone that would agree to sit with her. Betty loved to go to the casino and play her favorite games which, besides any game that would win big, was Heidi’s Bier Haus. Her favorite company for casinos, restaurants, or just home joking and laughing was her dear niece, Pam.
Betty will be remembered for being a loving mother and grandmother whose home was always a safe haven for her family and their friends. She loved to keep company, so she always welcomed guests, dinner dates, or anyone to drink coffee and chat with.
Betty is survived by her children Helen Tobias, Darrell (Judy) Brown, and Cheryl (Chris) Casavettes; 16 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James; daughter Joyce Stevens; parents Owen and Helen; two brothers; two sisters; and her niece Pam Middleton.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Internment will take place at Blythefield Memory Gardens.
