With sadness, the family of Wayne Henslee announces his death on February 1, 2022. Wayne was born in Farmersville, Texas, on June 16, 1938 to Jack and Zedda Henslee. Wayne moved to Grand Prairie when he was four years old and became a lifelong Grand Prairie Gopher fan. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1956 and attended North Texas University, where he met his wife Helen, of 63 years, whom he loved dearly.
He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, spending most of that time in Germany. Upon his return, Wayne began his tenure with Lone Star Gas and adopted two daughters, Patti and Tammi, and would later adopt his grandson, Matt. After retiring from 38 years at the gas company, he went to work at Graff Chevrolet for another 20 years. During these working years, he worked weekends at Miller Drug Store in Grand Prairie, catered meals with Eddlemon's BBQ, and served 39 years as security for First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie; he was a hard-working man, loving husband, and a devoted father.
Wayne bled Gopher blue and white and didn’t miss a football game (home or away) for 58 years. He also ran the down marker for home games during that impressive streak for over 30 years. Henslee was a faithful and generous member of First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. He never met a stranger, was a friend to all, and lived life to the fullest with solid faith and impeccable integrity.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Henslee, two daughters Patti Henslee of Dallas, husband Paul, and Tammi Heimirex of Las Vegas, son, Matt Henslee of Farmersville, wife Rebecca, and his granddaughters Kaydence, Leigha, Alivia and Gracie. Sister-in-law, Sara Garrett of Grand Prairie, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for Wayne will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, 950 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM at the church.
