I was so saddened to hear of Rebecca's passing. I first met her in the early 70's and she welcomed me as if she had known me for along time. That is just the type of person she was, she always  made me feel as if I were part of her family. She will be missed dearly. I thank her for the wonderful memories she and her family have given me over the years.

I was awaken that day with messages of well wishes for a happy birthday along with a message saying we Lost Aunt (Tia) Becky. I felt happy and blessed to be here to celebrate another year, then heartache and sadness of losing a loved one. My heart sank as I thought of my cousins. Then I thought of Tia Cruz and Uncle Pife,  I laid in bed and cried feeling sadness. 
Then I had flashbacks of driving with my mom and dad heading to Lubbock Texas to go visit the Guerrero family Tia Maria (dads sister.)   Then we took a short drive to Abernathy to go visit my Mom's side of the family Tia Becky and Tio Eduardo and a bunch of cousins. We didn't see very much of each other because of the distance. Then the Barrera family moved closer and we would spend time with each other at the ranch in Cedar Creek with Uncle Pife at the family fish fry, a gathering of family and friends. Showing our support for our Team. We had Burnt Orange for Texas Longhorns Making the Hook em Horn sign with our hands. Scarlett and Black for Red Raiders Guns Up flashing. Cowboys and Spurs fans. Laughter in the air. Football being thrown. Children laughing and running around. Everyone talking and visiting.  Enjoying the food and desserts. Taking pictures. Loving the day. A Great Memory.

 Rebecca's commitment to her faith,  is testimony of the love to all her family and extended family / friends has given a legacy to multiple generations of her proud and beautiful family, and those of us who had the privilege to knowing her and her family to strive to emulate that example.

I feel privileged to have known Rebecca Barrera, especially during the times I made the trip with Ofelia to Abernathy in our early and formative adult years. From my 1st visit, I was overwhelmed with the love, kindness & acceptance I felt from this beautiful family, and I'm not the only one. The Barreras led by Rebecca & Edward, seemed to have enough love for anyone, including extended "family" not born to them. 
I truly feel honored to have had this remarkable and gracious woman  as a small, but very influential part of my life. 


 

Grandma Barrera always took my cousin J (Jessica Martinez) and I to church on Sundays in Abernathy and if we didn't get up on time we would hear a lecture and would not be allowed to run outside n play when we got home-that meant we had to watch the Cowboys play..Grandma B  always smiled and loved to help at the Catholic Church..she will be missed by many but never forgotten..our prayers are with the Barrera Family..

I remember Mrs. Barrera as a fervent Dallas Cowboys fan. At a party, her daughter Laurie introduced me to her and said I was an Eagles fan. You should have seen the look on her face as she gasped with horror!  She smiled and said that it was OK since I seemed like a nice person. I know she will be greatly missed by her kids. 💕

Loved my Tia Becky. She was only 12 years older than me. She used to tease me that she would struggle to carry me cause I did not learn to walk til I was like 18 months. (I was pretty chunky as a toddler) My condolences to my Barrera cousins. May she Rest In Peace.

Heaven gained an angel. Mrs. Barrera was a sweet lady and I have many fond memories of her. My prayers to the family. May God comfort and care for you all.
