Our dear friend, (Jason) Marc Nichols, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on the afternoon of Saturday, October 30th, 2021 of undetected heart disease. Susan was by his side when he laid down to rest, but did not wake up. He left us too soon, at only 50 years old. His absence leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and good-natured sense of humor. He was a great friend to many.
Marc was born on November 2, 1970 to Rita and Bailey Nichols in Huntsville, Alabama. He spent his youth living in Alabama, Texas and Florida. He had one sister, Tonya, 3 years his junior. At the age of 19 he settled in Dallas in January 1990 and has called the Dallas metroplex home ever since.
Marc was very open-minded and appreciated the variety of life. He would try any food, at pretty much any time, just for the opportunity to experience it. He enjoyed a wide variety of music (although he had a special place in his heart for Johnny Cash). He was laid back, social and made friends easily.
Marc’s path was not always bright, but when he found himself walking through the dark for too long, he made the decision to change his life for the better. Once he decided to travel by becoming an over-the-road truck driver and see the country. While traveling, he discovered he did not have a particular state that he favored over another; rather, he appreciated something unique about each state he visited.
In December 2008 Marc had been home for a while when he decided to enlist in the Army at the age of 38. Joining the military family, becoming a soldier and being promoted to Sergeant were by far Marc’s most proud achievements. He served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany. We are grateful for his service. Marc was greatly admired by his military peers and made many true friendships that would endure long after he retired from service.
One motivating reason Marc decided to leave military service after 8 years was his desire to find the love of his life and settle into a long-term relationship. His family is incredibly grateful that he has been able to live that dream with Susan Canales since 2017. Marc and Susan met through mutual friends. They shared a home in Addison, then moved to Celina where they built a home and adopted their beloved lab pups, George and Gracie.
In Marc’s lifetime he traveled, made countless friendships and had the chance to love, and be loved. This is a life well-lived. You will be missed, brother.
