James Lynn Bailey, age 82 of Grand Prairie, TX, passed away on Friday, November 15th, 2024. James was born April 3rd, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to James Perry Bailey and Iva Lynn (Shetter) Lackey. He graduated High School in 1960. He married his sweetheart Carol on June 11th, 1966, and they were happily married for 58 years. James was a truck driver for over 50 years, working for several companies including Walmart, from which he retired after 15 years of dedication.
James was a true Christian, and active in his church and community throughout his entire life. He grew up in the Nazarene Church, where his father preached, and later became a member of The Woods United Methodist Church. James loved many sports, he was very involved in the Grand Prairie Boys Baseball. He also coached boys baseball for many years. An avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing were among James' favorite pastimes. In addition, he enjoyed classic tabletop games, like dominoes, and he was especially passionate about bowling. With all of James' love of sports and community, nothing could compare to the pure JOY he felt when he spent time with his precious grandchildren. Hearing them call him "PaPa" was worth more than anything!
James is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Bailey; his children; son, James Bailey Jr. (Wendy), daughter, Monica Sager (Michael); his grandchildren, Amber Snyder, Miranda Wright, Jessica Bailey, Michael Sager Jr.and Katelin Bailey; 9 great-grandchildren; his siblings; Philip Lackey, Sally Clark, Pam Rogers, Debbe Whitehead, Brenda Niles, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
James is preceded in death by his father, Reverend James P. Bailey, his mother, Iva L. Lackey, and his brothers Ronnie Bailey and Michael Bailey.
A visitation for James will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. A funeral service will take place Friday, November 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. A committal service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
