Freta Brown, 88, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away January 30, 2023. She was born in Terral, Oklahoma, on January 10, 1935. Freta Brown graduated from Terral High. She was married to James Thurston “Burton” Brown on November 25, 1953.
Freta enjoyed arts, crafts, crochet and sewing. She served as PTA President and other offices at Fannin Elementary and Jefferson Junior High and received a lifetime membership from Texas PTA. She was active in church, sang in the choir, played the piano by ear, played the accordion and taught Bible School. She loved singing in church trios. She was a member of Bowles Baptist Church. Freta was raised in a loving Christian home. She also enjoyed substituting in Grand Prairie Elementary schools.
Freta was so proud that she participated and sang at the Christ Ambassador Convention in Oklahoma City as a trio, with Teaka Russell and Cleopa “Sister” Keene, during her senior year of high school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Thurston “Burton” Brown, and her sister, June Vanover.
She is survived by her son Jimmy Brown and wife Mindy of Gallatin, Tennessee, her daughter Jarice “Reesie” Seward of Grand Prairie, Texas, and son Lynn Brown and wife Lara of Grand Prairie, Texas. 3 Grandchildren – Autumn Ann Troutt and husband Cody of Portland, Tennessee, Shelbi Lee Robinson and husband Joey of Douglasville, Georgia, and Wyatt Heston Brown of Grand Prairie, Texas. 3 Great Grandchildren – Brody Preston Troutt, Ezekiel Dakoda Troutt and Gracelynn Lee Robinson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
