Donald Lee Brown went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ February 10, 2013. He was born January 20, 1924 in Ames, IA to Samuel Ray Brown and Sadie Mabel Mallory. After graduating from Ottawa High School in 1941, he enlisted into the US Navy and joined the crew aboard the LCI 336. He rose to rank of quartermaster before medical discharge from a Navy Hospital in 1945.
Donald received several advanced degrees from the University of Kansas and North Carolina. He served as city manager for the cities of Wakefield and Cheboygan, Michigan as well as Newport, Arkansas.
Ultimately, Donald was employed within the public Health Sector of the federal government. In this arena, he and his family lived in Vietnam and the Philippines. They traveled to Japan, Taiwan, Iran, Europe, parts of the United States before settling down in Texas in 1972. He retired in 1978.
In 1987, Donald moved to Mesa Arizona to be close to his brother Gale. There he met Cathie Andrews. They married and remained in Mesa until 2011 when they moved to Texas.
Donald was very well spoken, loved animals, especially his Chihuahua Chipper. He enjoyed genealogy, apple computers, reading, and travel.
He is preceded by his parents Ray and Sadie, brothers Clare and Everett Gayle, sister Peg, and spouses Sara and Ruth.
He is survived by his wife Cathie Brown, daughter Jana Munoz and husband Ray, granddaughters Bethany and Kayla. Also son Jeffrey Brown and wife Kathy, grandson Jeffrey Brown II.
Visitation will be February 14, 2013 from 6-8pm at Bean Massey Burge on Beltline Road. Services will be February 15, 2013 at 12pm at Bean Massey Burge on Beltline Road. Interment will be February 18, 2013 at 11:15 am at the DFW National Cemetery.
