David Martin was born in Gainesville, Texas July 11, 1938 and passed away peacefully in Arlington, Texas October 22, 2020. He is survived by his son, Michael Martin and wife Heather of Carrolton, three granddaughters, Melinda Martin of North Richland Hills, Amanda Martin of Carrolton, and Marissa Butler of Louisville, Kentucky and special friend, Sara Garrett of Grand Prairie.
He was proud of his four great grandchildren, Abbie, Kyleigh, Treyton, and Alayna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ozella Martin, his wife Patsy Martin, his son, Rickey Martin, his sister Margaret and brother-law Pat Gilbert, and his brother Melvin and sister-in-law Charlotte Martin.
David attended Draughon School of Business but spent 35 years at Jack Cooper Transport as a mechanic and machinist. He could fix anything for anyone and a friend often said “if David can’t fix it, only God can.” When David first retired he moved to Lake Palestine, and he enjoyed fishing especially in competition with his son. He also built a large workshop at the lake to weld and do wood working projects which he mastered very well. David will be buried October 28 at DFW National Cemetery.
A visitation for David will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. Funeral service will take place Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 9:30 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
