CHARLES CHILDERS JOHNSON (“Chuck” or “Jack”), 88, passed away July 12, 2014 at home in Grand Prairie, Tx. after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Charles was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was born in Holdenville, OK on October 25, 1925 to Orville Johnson and Wynona McCulley. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Allene; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Ellen Johnson and grandson James; daughter Nancy Coe and husband Mike; and daughter Becky Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Don and Jimmy Carl. As a youth his family moved often and even though he attended a different school almost every year he held the importance of education foremost. He was the first of his family to earn a college degree. He passed on his emphasis on education to his offspring with the result that all three of his children earned advanced degrees.Charles was an Army Air Corps pilot in World War II. After the war he worked oil fields in Texas where he met his future bride, Allene Olsen. He and Allene used his VA benefits to help him obtain an aeronautical engineering degree from Spartan School of Aviation in OK. Charles worked for 29 years as an aeronautical engineer for Vought in Grand Prairie, designing, building and rising to an engineering management level. He loved all things related to flying, piloted his own planes. He rebuilt a Cessna 170 tail dragger and flew it to airshows all over the country.After retirement from Vought he did consulting work for American Eurocopter in Grand Prairie.Charles was an active leader in the Methodist church and a long time Boy Scout Troop and Explorer Post leader. He took great pride in developing troubled youth through scouting. He loved the outdoors,loved to share by leading scouts and his own family, which passes on his love of the outdoors.His love was his family, his passion was flying, and his joy was being in the outdoors.
