Wanda was born on September 2, 1935, to Ivy and Woodrow Gerry. She grew up in Collbran, Colorado, and spent much of her life in the surrounding areas, including Molina and Palisade.
A dedicated and compassionate nurse, Wanda served as a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in obstetrics and emergency care for over 30 years. She retired from Community Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and care.
Wanda had a deep love for the outdoors and embraced a wide range of hobbies. She cherished camping in Colorado’s mountains and Arizona’s deserts with her family, exploring historic mining and railroad towns, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and hiking. At home, she found joy in tending her rose garden, canning chokecherries, pickling cucumbers, and decorating her yard with vibrant flowers and wind chimes. She especially enjoyed mowing her cherished “pasture.” Above all, Wanda treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and her beloved dogs.
Wanda is survived by her sons, Kim Cummins (Debbie) of Loveland, Colorado, and Gary Cummins of Dodge City, Kansas; her stepdaughters, Denise Boss (Ed) of Clifton, Colorado, and Debbie Johnsen (Al) of Grand Junction, Colorado; her sister, Mary Lee Wilkinson of Fruita, Colorado; her brother, Lloyd Gerry of Eminence, Missouri; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Hooker; her parents; her brother, Gene Gerry; and her stepson, Bryan Hooker.
Wanda’s cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
