Survivors include her husband, Jim; one son, Owen Velasquez of California; two stepsons, Carl Thayer of Colorado and Scott Thayer of Georgia; two daughters, Paula Newton and Linnie Krauland, both of Colorado; one stepdaughter, Virginia Mensik of Texas; one brother, Charles R. Ennis of Ohio; one sister, Barbara Pigford of Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Marie Thayer

April 6, 1929 - March 21, 2016

Ruth Marie Thayer was born April 6, 1929, in Grand Junction, Colorado to Paul and Marjorie (DuCray) Ennis. Ruth passed peacefully at The Commons Assisted Living, Monday, March 21st.

Ruth attended Grand Junction High School and Mesa College. She worked for Groves, Dufford and Nelson Law Office, then Mountain Bell/US West engineering, retiring after 35 years.

Her memories and stories about her childhood at the family homestead ranch above Vega Reservoir were among her most cherished.

Survivors include her husband, James Thayer; children of prior deceased husband, Mike Velasquez, Paula (Velasquez) Newton (Don), Owen Velasquez (Nancy), Linnie Ennis Krauland (Konrad); step-children, Virginia Mensik (Steve), Carl Thayer (Lisa) and Scott Thayer (Sharon); sister, Barbara (Ennis) Pigford; brother, Charles R. Ennis (Ann); 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren (one more on the way). Ruth found great joy spending time with all of her beloved grandchildren.

Ruth was a spirited woman who loved life. She enjoyed many years with Jim and her family at the cabin on ""Golden Pond"" in Grand Mesa. Family and dear friends meant everything to Ruth. She was funny, feisty and generous. She loved to let loose a shrill whistle till her last day!

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Callahan-Edfast. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Commons Garden Room (West entrance), 625 27 ½ Rd, from 1 - 4:00 p.m.
