Kirk Fry, 82, of Hotchkiss, CO lost his battle to Alzheimer’s at home with his family by his side on July 16, 2024. He was born in Victoria, TX on April 26, 1942, to Dr. Polk Fry and Dorothy Simms Fry. Kirk grew up in Frederick, OK and graduated from Oklahoma State University. He attended University of Tennessee School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine internship at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Following his time in Memphis, he was a Lieutenant in the Public Health Service on Standing Rock Indian Reservation in Ft. Yates, ND for two years. He did his Orthopedic residency at the University of Oklahoma with a six-month rotation at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California.
Kirk married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Gore, on September 29, 1968. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 55 years. Kirk and Nancy have three children – Anne Witte of Prosper, TX (Eric), Amy Otteson of Golden, CO (Dave) and Russ Fry of Livingston, MT (Susan). Kirk loved being Granddad to his seven grandchildren: Kate, Hallie and Judd Witte, Ryan, Kirk and Gore Otteson, and Charlie Fry.
For 28 years, Kirk was a partner of Northwest Oklahoma Orthopedics in Enid, OK before retiring in 2003. He and Nancy retired to Hotchkiss, CO where they divided their time between Hotchkiss and Gunnison (their special place for over fifty years). For those who knew Kirk, there was no doubt that his faith was his number one priority in life. He was a Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Enid and at Eckert Presbyterian Church.
Kirk was passionate about many hobbies but none more than quail hunting and fly-fishing. He also enjoyed spending quality time with close friends, flying, traveling, biking, playing the guitar, tying flies, skiing and golfing. In his last years, his favorite pastime was walking their Australian Shepherd, Cowboy.
Kirk will always be remembered for his compassion toward his patients, his love for his family, and his Christian faith. While his demeanor was calm and gentle, he led with a quiet, confident strength.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his brother, Keith Fry (Sandra), and sisters, Donna Sherman (Payton) and Susie Fry.
Kirk’s memorial service will be held at the Eckert Presbyterian Church in Eckert, CO on August 6th at 10:30. If desired, memorials may be sent to Eckert Presbyterian Church, 13025 Hwy 65, Eckert, CO 81418 or HopeWest Hospice at 195 Stafford Lane, Delta, CO 81416 or https://www.hopewestco.org/donate/.
