Randolph "Randy" Eugene Black, lovingly known as Randy, was born on June 29, 1957, in Springfield, Illinois. He was the son of Augustus Burton Black and Betty Louise Orme. On July 14, 2023, Randy passed away, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of his family and friends.
Randy attended Tri City High School in Riverton, Illinois and upon graduating, he embarked on a career as a concrete finisher. He possessed a natural talent for his craft and was widely recognized for his exceptional workmanship. Randy's dedication and skill made a lasting impact in the field.
In 1985, Randy married Melodie Grasso, and became a stepfather to Gino and Fabio Grasso. In 1986 they welcomed their daughter, Danielle Rosanna Black. Although their marriage ended in divorce in 1991, Randy's love and commitment to his daughter remained unwavering throughout his life.
For a number of years, Randy worked as a mechanic at Salida Motors in Salida, Colorado, under the guidance of his father-in-law. Eventually, he relocated to Canon City, where he continued to pursue his passion as a concrete finisher. His reputation for producing high-quality work earned him a well-deserved reputation in the community.
In 2003, Randy made a move to Grand Junction, eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first grandson, Dominik Smith. The joy and pride he experienced as a grandfather were immeasurable, and he cherished the time spent with Dominik.
In 2013, Randy met Kimberly Jo Andrews, who became his loving and devoted wife. Together, they created a life filled with happiness and shared countless cherished moments. Randy's love for Kimberly was evident in the way he cared for her and the deep bond they shared. His stepson Cody, gave him a beautiful granddaughter Mila. She loved coming over to hang out with Papa Randy and they spent many moments together with smiles on their faces.
Throughout his life, Randy had a passion for NASCAR and was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. In his younger years, he delighted in outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, and fishing. These experiences allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories. He also loved to dance and the memories of him doing the boogie will be cherished forever.
Randy will be deeply missed by his wife, Kimberly Jo Black, his daughter, Danielle Rosanna Black, his stepsons, Gino and Fabio Grassso, Cody Andrews and Justin Carson, and his beloved grandchildren, Dominik Smith and Mila Andrews. He is survived by his sisters Dee (Kevin) Bryant, Ruth Stice, Becky (Chris) Kendall, Kathy (Henry) Crouch, Rena Shannon, Kerri (Mike) DeLaRosa, April (Mike) Clark, and his brothers Rusty (Kelly) Black, Chuck (Nola) Shannon, Jerry (Sue) Shannon. His memory will also be cherished by extended family members and friends who were touched by his kind heart and generous spirit. He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, sister Fran and Brother Jr.
As we bid farewell to Randy, let us remember him for the love and laughter he brought into our lives. May his spirit live on in our hearts and may he find eternal peace.
