Nancy Jean (Gilbert) Bollig passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on November 4, 2024, at the age of 73. Nancy was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on April 2, 1951, to father, Delbert Samuel Gilbert, and mother, Shirley Lucille (Smith) Gilbert. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1969. She earned her Associates in Applied Science and a certificate in Drug and Alcohol Counseling in 1975, from Metropolitan College. In 1985, Nancy earned her Bachelors in Arts in Sociology from Mesa State College. She lived her whole life in Colorado and served the community of Mesa County as a Colorado State Probation Officer, until her retirement. She loved spending time with her family and beloved dog, Sadie Mae, reading mystery novels, cooking adventurous and delicious foods, spending time with friends, and camping all over the beautiful states of Colorado and Utah. Nancy had a huge heart and unique sense of humor and her passing, which came far too early, will leave a hole in the hearts of all those that knew her. Nancy is survived by her brother (and closest friend), Darrell Gilbert; daughter, Brooke (Bollig) VanOrden; son-in-law, Jerry VanOrden; and beloved granddaughter, Lyla VanOrden. Her father, Delbert Gilbert and mother, Shirley Gilbert, preceded Nancy in death.
A graveside service will be held at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2024. After the ceremony, please join us at a reception in celebration of Nancy’s life. This reception will be held at 12:30 pm at Kannah Creek Brewing Company located at 1960 North 12th Street, Grand Junction.
Please join us for good food, drinks, and sharing memories about Nancy. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution, in the honor of Nancy Jean (Gilbert) Bollig, to Hope West. Although Nancy was not in their care at the time of her passing, she was a strong supporter of their work in our community. Arrangements are under the care of Martin Mortuary.
