Michael Charles Anderson, 62, of San Mateo, CA, passed away September 2, 2023, in Grand Junction, CO after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on October 9, 1960, in Brooklyn, NY to his parents Samuel Kenneth Sr. & Arlene (Fong) Anderson and grew up in Port Jefferson, NY. He is survived by sisters, Sandy Clark (Jesse) Middletown, DE, Cynthia Sturgis (Lawrence Sr.) New Castle, DE, Kaye Leonard, Queens, NY; brother Samuel K. Michael graduated from The Stony Brook School, NY and then from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach and worked in the travel industry his entire career. He was deeply respected, beloved, and valued by all his former co-workers and colleagues and remained close to all who knew him over the years.
Michael’s passion for baseball and his childhood team, The New York Mets ran deep. He genuinely enjoyed being an assistant coach throughout Daniel’s T-Ball and Little League career. He passed his love of baseball onto his son, and they attended many Giants/Mets games over the years. The most recent in July, in prime seats behind home plate at Citi Field, Queens, NY.
He was the consummate “Dead Head” and had long-lasting, strong friendships with so many he toured with over the decades. Michael had an incredibly diverse musical palette across all genres, which he enjoyed and shared with all who knew him.
Michael and Nancy shared their mutual enthusiasm for travel with their son and took many Anderson Family Adventures over the years. The family was on their final road trip and were able to make Michael’s dream of seeing Monument Valley, AZ a reality days before he passed away. He championed LIVING every moment until the end with his wife and son by his side.
Michael’s legacy of strength, compassion, intelligence, dignity, and love will live on through all those who knew him, loved him, and cherish his memory.
