Lamoyn was born on July 8, 1950, in Modesto, California, to Julianne (Totman) and Delwyn Harold Thorkelson. Growing up in Central California alongside his siblings Victoria and Mark, Lamoyn embraced an active and adventurous lifestyle. From a young age, he developed a passion for equestrian pursuits, hunting, and fishing. His lifelong career as a horse trainer kept him in the saddle, where he often remarked that the best view was right in front of him between the ears of a horse.
When he wasn't training racehorses or competing in rodeos in Central California, Lamoyn worked as a maintenance mechanic for Ernest & Julio Gallo's wine-making operation, where he was also a dedicated member of the winemakers' union.
In pursuit of new horizons, Lamoyn and his family moved to Southwestern Colorado. There, he continued to hone his skills as an expert mechanic, welder, and fabricator while establishing his own horse training business. Lamoyn's love for the great outdoors saw him guiding elk hunting and fly-fishing trips into the Rockies. His travels took him across the American West, and he forged lasting connections with the incredible people he met along the way. Whether in Colorado, California, Idaho, or Wyoming, Lamoyn embodied the true cowboy spirit, always on the move with his horse trailer, saddle, and Harley.
Lamoyn's adventurous spirit extended to camping trips with nothing more than a horse, saddle, and a can of beans. He cherished time spent fishing, hunting, mounted shooting, riding his Harley, and reading scripture. His loved ones will forever hold dear the memories of their shared adventures and the wisdom he imparted.
Lamoyn's faith was a cornerstone of his life. To know him was to witness his daily celebration of God's glory. He frequently paused to appreciate the blessings around him and to pray over life's challenges, embodying a profound and enduring relationship with God.
Lamoyn Howard Thorkelson leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering faith.
