Joe was raised in the small town of Plainville, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas, and was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity where he established life-long friendships. Always supporting his beloved Jayhawks, he attended three National Championship basketball games. Joe returned often to his hometown where the family lived for generations and still has farmland.
Following a pull westward, Joe obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado. He had the privilege and honor of clerking for Colorado Supreme Court Justice James K. Groves and went on to practice law for his entire career. As a serial entrepreneur, he opened several businesses and was always looking for new opportunities. Joe had a thirst for knowledge and never stopped learning new things, always sharing his vast wealth of information with anyone who would listen.
The Western Slope was his playground. Joe never met a tackle box he didn’t like! An avid outdoorsman, he loved bringing people together to share in his favorite activities: camping, boating, and fishing trips with the family, coaching sports teams for his children, elk camp with the cousins and pheasant season in Western Kansas with his fraternity brothers. He had a passion for bird hunting and trained several hunting dogs. Joe loved hiking and climbed many 14ers in Colorado. In later years, he loved long drives “up country” to his favorite places on the Grand Mesa and to the family cabins. Joe was happiest when he was out in nature.
His greatest love and joy was spending time with his family. Every year Joe organized a reunion with his cousins and their families. As the family historian, he researched the family lineage and kept genealogy records dating back the American Revolution.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Mary Louise and Fielding Patrick Hambright. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pam; his children Fielding Patrick Hambright II (Shannon), Annie Haley Hambright Coghill (Jeff), William Paul Hambright and Andreson Baker Hambright (Jenny); and his grandchildren Devin Jeter Smith-Hambright, Kenneth Joseph Luke Hambright, Max Andreson Smith-Hambright, Kailea Margaret Coghill, Savannah Sydney Hambright, Hudson Horton Hambright and Michael Anthony Hambright.
