John “Jack’ Stevens of Grand Junction, CO passed away April 14, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a sudden illness, he was 84.
Jack was born on October 29, 1929 in Hudson, Colorado from the union of Estel and Garnet Stevens. He was the oldest of four children and served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He returned from his service to our country and married M. Lucille Cummings on October 15, 1953, they raised three children. He attended Colorado State University. He was the Henrylyn Irrigation District President for many years providing for and protecting water rights for Eastern Colorado farmers. He was a member of the Farmers Marketing Association, the James Memorial United Methodist Church in Hudson, CO., the Elks, the VFW and the American Legion.
Jack and Lucille ranched and farmed in Hudson, CO until their retirement in 1995. They traveled throughout the US, Canada and Mexico in a fifth wheel trailer full time for fifteen years.
He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, playing pool with the boys and spending time with his family.
Jack leaves behind his wife of sixty-one years; Lucille Stevens of Grand Junction, CO, their three children; a son; John (Debbie) Stevens Jr. of Denver, CO, daughters; Laurel of Milford, MI, Jana (Robert) of Grand Junction, CO, a brother; Jerry (Pat) Stevens of Denver, CO, a sister; Joan Johnston of Greeley, CO, four grandchildren; Brooke, Heather, Luke and Connor, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister; Janice Norrish.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, April 28, 2014 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, Grand Junction, CO.
