James "Jim" Richard Moore, a longtime resident of Phoenix, Arizona, peacefully passed away at his home on July 13, 2024, at the age of 85. Jim was born on September 9, 1938, in Spring Canyon, Utah, to Claude William Moore and Vera Sulley. The family later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where Jim's father served with the Fire Department and his mother worked as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital. Jim graduated from Grand Junction High School and continued his education at Mesa Community College nearby. He proudly served in the United States Marines, and following his military service, he embarked on a career as the Director of Materials at Amax Minerals. One of his career highlights was his involvement in the development of the Henderson underground mine tunnel, as well as his work on projects such as the Climax mine in Leadville and the Henderson Mine in Grand County, along with the corporate offices in Golden, CO. The Henderson mine and mill are connected by a 10-mile conveyor tunnel under the Continental Divide and an additional five-mile surface conveyor. Jim was married to Colleen Moore, and they had five children together. After that marriage ended, Jim found enduring happiness in his marriage to Elizabeth (Liza) Moore, whom he adored for over 33 years. Jim also found solace and companionship in his dogs Coco, Miner, and Foxie, who brought him great comfort in his later years. In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed nurturing his grapevines, playing golf, and cherished moments spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Vera; his brother, Howard Moore; and his sister, Claudette Kohls. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Liza Moore; his sons, Zachary Tyler Moore, and Spencer William Moore; his daughters, Amber Michele Nord, Tiffane Vincenta Moore (Johnson), and Jamie Brooke Moore (Newman); four grandchildren Audra Nord, Alisha (Nord) Donnelley, Luke Nord, and Scarlett Johnson; and two great-grandchildren Behr Nord and Eddie Nord, with a thrid on the way. A burial service honoring Jim, including military honors, will be held on July 24, 2024, at 10 AM at the Veteran Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, located at 2830 Riverside Pkwy, Grand Junction, CO 81501. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Jim's honor to Oakwood Creative Care at www.oakwoodcreativecare.org/donate
