Glenda was born in Salina, Kansas on March 10, 1936 to Morton and Daisy (Tapp) Johnston. In 1954, she graduated high school from Salina. Glenda loved to dance while she was a young girl and went on to be a dance teacher to many children in the area, it was one of her fondest memories to share.
Glenda married Reo Leroy Harris of Jennings, Kansas on November 11, 1954. From 1954 to 1961 they lived in Kansas, California, Texas, Missouri, and Mississippi. She became a mother to Brian in August of 1958, Brent in July of 1964, and Melissa in July of 1968.
Glenda’s first job that lead to a life career was a telephone operator in Kansas. In 1970 Glenda and her family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. She was a manager for 30 years at Mountain Bell/US West. Glenda retired at an early age of 55. She then kept herself busy with her husband’s business, and her own medical claims business.
Glenda spent 15 years participating in 4H as all 3 of her children were members that showed livestock or did general projects and she was a ceramic leader too. She loved being involved with her grandkids and watching them play sports and doing other activities. As her family grew with the great-grandkids she enjoyed watching them grow into their personalities. There was not a person that would want to miss out on her homemade Kolachies, everyone loved them including Senator Doyle from Kansas. She also loved canning in the summertime and making candy during the holidays.
Glenda is survived by her 3 children: Brian Lee Harris of Grand Junction, Co Brent Wayne Harris & Deb McLeod of Loveland, Co and Melissa Lynn Green and her husband Bryan of Olathe Co; 7 grandchildren: Christie (Harris) & Jason McCord, Darcie Harris & Trent Starr, Kristina (Harris) &Shaun Kinney, Jonathan & Molly Harris, Rio Green, Codi Green and Ashlee Green; 9 great grandchildren: Kaleb McCord, Brison Nielsen, Emaleigh Nielsen, Mandie Pickering, Bradyn Kinney, Dakota Kinney, Ryleigh Kinney, Isaac Kinney and Keaton Harris. She is also survived by a half-sister Greta Oliver of Shelton, WA, 2 sister-in-law’s Lila Jennings of Jennings, KS and Dorotha Johnston of Kansas, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is proceed in death by her husband Leroy Harris, her parents, her brother Willis (Bud) Johnston and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Glenda was a member of the United Methodist Church, and Eastern Star Chapter H 106 Oberlin.
A funeral service for Glenda will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary & Crematory, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, Colorado 81505. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 2:30 PM at Orchard Mesa Cemetery, 2620 Legacy Way, Grand Junction, CO 81503.
