Geneva is survived by a sister Levita Pearson, daughter Deborah Coy Lamb (Rocklyn), granddaughters Desiree’ Foster (Kerry), Deidra Dunbar (Ryan), great-grandchildren Payton Lamb, Bruce Dunbar, Rocklyn Dunbar, Warren Dunbar and Noah Foster. Also survived by her dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as Gem, Geneva was born in 1939 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. While growing up in Wewoka she attended Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church where her dad was a minister and Wewoka High School. Geneva left her home in Wewoka to travel to Honolulu, HI and marry her husband Leonard on April 1, 1957. Together they would raise their two children Debbie and Little Leonard as they moved from place to place in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico, always seeking to improve their lives.
Incredibly talented, Geneva loved drawing for the little ones in her life. She also loved music and dancing, especially on roller skates. Geneva was good with her hands and loved woodworking. She remodeled many of the homes they lived in and was proud of the tools she collected along the way. Always an outdoors lover, Geneva thought any day was a good day for fishing, camping or working in the yard. While growing up Geneva would hang out at the family service station and garage with her brothers. This inspired her love for anything loud and fast whether it was a car, boat, jet ski, motorcycle or snowmobile. Geneva was game to take it for a spin. Even in later life she would get giddy if she heard a nearby engine revving up.
Geneva’s greatest gift was wholeheartedness. She gave her whole heart to everything she did whether it was loving her family, caring for friends, or helping her community. Geneva once served as the mayor of Longdale, Oklahoma. Her mission as owner of the Bucking Horse and Bait Shop by Oklahoma’s Canton Lake was to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Over the years Geneva’s compassionate care impacted countless patients and families as she worked as a CNA in home health, hospital and retirement home settings. Geneva retired in 2006 from Los Alamos Hospital in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Memories of Geneva’s fun-loving spirit, fierce love, and supportive heart will never be forgotten. There is no doubt she was met at the gates of heaven with the greeting, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Services to honor and celebrate Geneva’s life will be held at 10:00 am on June 15, 2024, at Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church, 36292 59 W, Wewoka, OK. An interment service will occur directly afterward at Oakwood Cemetery, 132 East Road (Off hwy 56).
