June 5, 1929 – August 20, 2017
Eileen E. Covey of Palisade, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 20, 2017. She was deeply loved and adored and will be missed beyond measure by those lucky enough to be part of her family.
Eileen was born in Shannon County, Missouri to Charley Lee Atchison and Meekie Fay (Chrisco) Atchison on June 5, 1929. Her family moved to Clifton, Colorado when Eileen was about 8 years old and it was here that she attended church and school and met the love of her life, Nolie S. Covey. They were married on May 19, 1946 and they loved and supported one another for over 70 years, until Nolie’s passing in April of this year. Together they raised 3 children, created a successful business and lived a full and rich life. Eileen was an amazing partner and always did her utmost to give her family what they needed. She was a warm and loving wife and mother and when she became a grandmother, she made sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were adequately spoiled. Eileen liked being outdoors and always raised a big garden, making sure she had plenty to share. She enjoyed canning her harvest and tried to never let anything go to waste. She was an excellent seamstress and the clothing and quilts she made were prized possessions among her family. She was a faithful volunteer at her church, sewing costumes for programs and cooking and serving food at dinners. Over the years, she rocked babies for new mothers and taught Sunday school lessons and provided behind the scenes support wherever she could. She always offered compassion and a kind word if you needed it, but her biggest gift was her smile and she shared it freely with everyone she met.
In their retirement years, Eileen and Nolie moved to Palisade where they raised and sold peaches. Eileen found a true passion in this work and she totally embraced being called the peach lady.
Eileen is survived by her daughters, Lela (Dru) Bishop and Brenda (Nick) Flanagan. Her brother Emery (Myrna) Atchison, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Nolie Steele Covey, her son, Nolie Howard Covey, her parents, Charley and Meekie Atchison, two brothers, Albert and Kenneth Atchison and one sister, Marlene Hall
Graveside services will take place at 10:00a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
