Connie Lee Strothman was born on June 13, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, to Jim Harshman and Leona Ewton. She passed away after a long battle from the complications Parkinson disease on June 9, 2021 at the age of 85.
Connie graduated from North High School in Wichita. On August 31, 1957, she married Fred Strothman. That marriage last 64 years. After Fred graduated from University, they moved to Topeka, Kansas, and later to Denver. By now, Connie was raising two fine young boys, James and Gregory. As the boys grew, Connie enrolled in Metropolitan State University of Denver at the age of 55. This was a remarkable achievement since she was diagnosed with glaucoma. During this time, she suffered through many surgeries and procedures to save her vision. With great perseverance and determination, she graduated with many honors, including Outstanding Student at Large- Academic Achievement, and Outstanding Student at Large- Challenging Circumstances. Connie was a travel agent for many years with a large clientele of happy travelers.
When Connie and Fred "retired", they moved to Grand Junction and started a totally new life and career in the wine business, beginning with The Meadery of the Rockies, where Connie was president. Later, St. Kathryn Cellars came on line. In 2008, the businesses were sold and retirement was at hand. She is survived by her husband, Fred; sons, James and Gregory; and granddaughter, Jennifer.
Connie always set a good example for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and partner. She was a ray of sunshine to all those who knew her. Her job on earth was well done. She is greatly loved, and will be greatly missed.
