Colleen Inez Altman Craig, born July 27 1925 at Carson, North Dakota to Russell F. Altman and Inez Lauder Altman, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. In September of 1926, she moved to the Lauder Grandparents farm in Burnett County, Northern Wisconsin. She attended White Pine School in Burnett County, a 1 room school, and was then bussed to Siren High School. She graduated high school as the Valedictorian and received a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin at Madison. This was during WWII so she got a War related job. When the war was over, she and a friend decided to go to California. Her friend had relatives in Denver so they stopped to work there a while. While in Denver, she met Charley Craig and lost all desire to go to California. They were married on April 3, 1948 and had 3 children, Raymond Craig of Lombard, IL, Clyde Craig of Montrose, CO and the late Ralph Craig of Schaumberg, IL; 5 grandchildren, Stephene of Glen Ellyn, IL, John of Virginia Beach, VA, Kathy of Lombard, IL, Brian of Downers Grove, IL, and Crystal of Philadelphia, PA; and 3 great grandchildren, Alexandra “Lexie” and Karolina of Virginia Beach, VA and Charlee of Philadelphia, PA.
Charley worked for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad and retired in 1982. They moved to Grand Junction in 1984 and lived a grand life for 30 years. Charley and Colleen celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Charley died in October of 2015. Colleen moved to Mesa View Assisted Living.
A graveside service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 10am.
