Everybody’s best friend, Charles “Chuck” Carlson, moved on from this life to the next on June 4, 2023, after 84 great years. The hearts of those left here without him are grateful the illness he endured at the end of his life was brief and he passed in peace.
Chuck never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. Most to his wife, June, of fifty years who survives him and will most miss his presence. The two met in Broomfield, CO, where he worked in telecommunications at Western Electric then AT&T after two years of college at Colorado School of Mines then pausing his education to care for his family including his brother Darrell who recently visited with his wife, Marlene. When he married June in the Poudre Canyon, where he loved to fish, he enthusiastically became “dad” to Duane (Debbie) and LJ (Terry) who only knew him as their devoted “dad” in return. As grandchildren came along, he accepted the role of “chief-spoiler-in-charge” to Jason, who then married (Chandace), and Robyn, who married (Joe), and he deeply loved all of them and his five great-grandchildren: Chandler, Jacey, Landon, Jonas, and Elora. He had deep connections with several nieces and nephews and many “adopted” family members. To Chuck, it was always family first and he generously took them to athletic games and concerts, showered them with gifts and magazines, and made sure the pantry was stocked with everyone’s favorites.
Those in this community who knew Chuck, knew him to be an avid supporter of Colorado Mesa University, particularly all athletics events. He could be found in the auditoriums at theater performances and concerts and at many home games in the gym and fields or scouting players and hosting team dinners for the girl’s soccer team. He loved a meal at Randy’s Southside Diner, and made daily trips to coffee shops and stores where he’d visit with not a stranger in sight. Among many hobbies and collections he had, he loved fishing, golf, JUCO games, Mopars, bighorn sheep, and music.
A memorial service to Chuck will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 1pm in the Maverick Center/Brownson Arena at Colorado Mesa University; we will be meeting in MC 165. To honor his deep generosity, in lieu of flowers that will fade away, please consider a more lasting tribute to Chuck at www.supportingcmu.com/ChuckCarlson.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.callahan-edfast.com for the Carlson family.
