Carolyn was born on April 9, 1942, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Joel and Beatrice Strickland. She attended Midwest City High School and was an active member of the girl's choir. After high school, she moved to Riverside, CA with her Aunt Wynema and Uncle Richard Taylor. While in Riverside she met Allen Robert (Bob) Engels and they began a relationship that resulted in 63 amazing years of marriage and three loving children, Julie DeAnn Saccuman (57), Van Allen Engels (57), and Mark Dominic Engels (53). However, their relationship was not love at first sight as Carolyn found Bob a bit arrogant. Fortunately, he grew on her and they wed 18 months later and started a journey that produced an incredible family that was the center of her world. This family includes 5 grandchildren, Taylor Ball, Sophi Wolfe, Dane Wolfe, Zachary Engels, and Lorren Engels as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Blakely Ball and Keoni Fleming.
Carolyn was a warm, loving, selfless, and caring woman of faith that was salt of the earth. She put her family and friends first and loved them with all her being. She was extremely proud of her family and Oklahoma heritage and bled Crimson and Cream for her Oklahoma Sooners. In fact, she could vividly recount crying with her mother the day the Sooners NCAAF record 47 game winning streak was snapped her senior year of high school.
Carolyn (Mom, Gram, B, Biscuit) will always be remembered for her unwavering support and love for her husband and children and her amazing hugs that seemed to make all the troubles in the world melt away. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and her memory will live on in us all.
