Callie was born to Edward and Adra Baird in Dove Creek, Colorado. She was the fourth of five children. Callie attended school in Dove Creek. Upon graduating she moved to Grand Junction to attend beauty college. After completing her studies, Callie returned to Dove Creek and opened a beauty shop.
Callie met and married Keith Cowling from the Cortez area in April 1952. They made their home in Dove Creek where Keith was in charge of the area electrics for Empire Electric. Callie and Keith enjoyed many interests. Among them were square dancing, camping, fishing, rock hunting, and traveling in their RV. However, the highlight for them was family and friends.
Callie is survived by her children, Dr. Steve Cowling of Roosevelt, Utah; Edna Edick, who was blessed to have Callie with her for the last four years in Fayetteville, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Brandon Karn of Fayetteville, and Tiffany (Brad) Schrag of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Austin Dixon of Fayetteville, and Owen Dixon of Albuquerque; extended family, Michele Sears of Farmington, Arkansas; sister, Marguerite (JE) Wilson of Dove Creek; her nieces, nephews, and many friends made throughout the years.
Callie was a thoughtful, gentle person. She enjoyed a long and happy life. She will be greatly missed.
