Tony was born on November 6, 1936, in Norton, Virginia, to Palmer and Mable (Boggs) Abshire. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on November 17, 1953, and achieved the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge on November 16, 1957. He married Janice Silva, who sadly passed in 1973. On October 3, 1993, he married Sharon Rose Abshire in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Throughout Tony’s life he lived in Hemet, California, Medford, Oregon, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and Talent, Oregon, before settling in Grand Junction where he and Sharon have resided for the last 4 ½ years.
Tony worked in the transportation industry for over 50 years. He was a volunteer with the Ashland and Talent Police Departments and was a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteer in Ashland. He was a member of the Grand Junction First Church of the Nazarene. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Tony is survived by his wife, Sharon Abshire of Grand Junction; his son, Tony Abshire of Roseville, California; stepson, Jesse Everson of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; sister, Pat Carpenter of Lexington, Kentucky; stepbrother, Jimmy Abshire of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer Abshire and Mable Zeball; brother, Mark Abshire; and sister, Jeannine Logan.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Mortuary, with a military honors service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
