He was born on March 17, 1932 in Ree Heights, South Dakota to Andrew Wieland and Ella Kost Wieland. Married Ruth Haycock Wieland on March 9, 1964 in Helper, Utah.
Al was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, having joined in Price, Utah in 1970 and transferred to the Grand Junction Lodge in 1986. He is a past Exalted Ruler, past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and was named Colorado Elk of the year in 1998.
Al served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to work for D&RGW Railroad/Union Pacific until he retired in 1993.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; daughter, Jana (Ted) O’Hearon, Price, Utah; granddaughters, Jennifer O’Hearon and Shauna (Jason) Rachiele, West Jordan, Utah; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jorden, Zakary, Victor, Aspen, Jaylee and Kelcee; brother, Wilbert; sister, Eldora Johnson
Al is preceded in death by his parents; son, Clint Wieland; sister, Gertrude Green; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Ruth Haycock.
