Robert P. Hunter also known by Papa, Bud, Buzz, Bob and Old Blue, 82, of Grand Blanc, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on December 10th, 2024.
Born and raised in Detroit, Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. Following his military service, he met and married the love of his life Cynthia “Cindy” in 1965. Together they built a life full of love and laughter, raising four children: Ty Hunter, R. Todd Hunter, Korie Searles and Dorine (and Bill) Klages.
Robert’s family was his greatest joy. In addition to his four children, he was the proud Papa of eight grandchildren: Ty’s daughter Katie Papp, Todd’s daughters Breeyan Hunter and Shelby (and Ethan) Leppke, Korie’s daughters Audrey and Chloe Searles and Dorine and Bill’s daughters Sophia and Stella Klages. He was the proud great grandfather of Chloe’s son Beck Jenkins and Shelby and Ethan’s daughter Paisley Leppke. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Todd’s son Brett P. Hunter.
Robert worked for 40 years as an automotive test technician at Chrysler, retiring in 2007. In retirement he embraced his passions- camping, restoring and working on his classic cars and trucks including a 1964 M.G. Midget he brought back from France during the time he served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed model car building, making childhood toys into hot rods, and NASCAR. He even had his own ’64 Plymouth dirt track car, he raced in Mt. Clemons and dabbled in RC planes and was a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast; making a few of his own and he even made a chess set out of small engine parts! He loved to draw and sculpt and could tap his fingers to the beat of whatever music was playing. Robert relished creating memories with his family and friends and would reflect on them and the many years of joy they brought him.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, Robert will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering work ethic, his sense of humor and a life well lived.
