Joe was born April 6, 1950 in Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Florence (Matthews) McHugh. Joe attended Alfred State University where he met his wife and life-long partner, Ellyn. He enjoyed a long career in advertising, sales and sales management at Detroit News, Monthly Detroit, Newsweek and Parade Magazine, before finally starting his own business, Breakthrough Media. Always the life of the party, he enjoyed entertaining at Detroit Golf Club, dancing, and coaching soccer for his three kids, Joe Jr., Alyson and Paul. Joe cherished his family. He was a wonderful and dedicated grandfather; his grandchildren were the light in his life. Joe deeply loved his siblings, celebrating occasions with his brothers, sisters and extended family. He recently enjoyed living at the Grand Reserve with his wife, Ellyn, where they socialized frequently with neighbors and new friends. He lived a full life right to the very end, and just returned from Florida in March. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
