Jean was born in Flint, Michigan, on December 4, 1934, to the late William and Gladys (Baird) Berry, Sr. After graduating high school, Jean went on to work at AC Spark Plug to earn funds for college. Jean earned degrees of Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan and Education at Ferris State University. In addition, she earned her Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Detroit. While raising her two children she worked for over 10 years in private practice and retired as Professor after more than 20 years of teaching and administration in Mott Community College’s Dental Hygiene program. Jean was quite proud of her dedication and accolades. Not only did she devote her time to the education of others but was equally devoted to being a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays, dining with family and friends, and traveling to warm places with her husband. Jean and David were spirited residents of the Villages, FL for 16 years after retirement. Jean was deeply loved, cherished and will be missed by her family and friends.
Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving husband of sixty-seven years, David Douglas; children Dana MacDonald (Patricia McGirr) and Marigrace Cole (Kenneth); grandson Karl Cole (Elizabeth Taylor); great granddaughter Amy Jean Cole, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents William and Gladys Berry and brother William Berry, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Mott Community College - 1401 E. Court Street, Flint, Michigan 48503.
An inurnment for Jean will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, Michigan.
