Helen “Bea” Orr passed away at the age of 100 on September 9, 2021 in Standish, Michigan.
She was born on November 10, 1920 to the late Fredrick R. and Florence (McGovern) Downer. Bea was raised in the beautiful two-story stone house at the corner of Cedar and Grove. She lived her entire life in Standish and worked many years for Consumers Power.
Bea was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and former member of VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She spent time in Saginaw with her sister going to Opti-Mrs, Garden Club and playing bridge.
She also enjoyed working in her yard, attending grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events, knitting, going to a Casino, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Bea was always full of life and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Bea leaves behind daughter, Suzanne Thorp; son, Lyle (Connie) Orr; grandchildren, Onalee (Rob) Watson; Ashlee (Gary) Bennett; Sean (Christa) Thorp; great grandchildren Emily Watson; Taylor Bennett; Makayla Bennett; Ciara Thorp; nephews, Fred (Jeri) Walker; and Jim (Peggy) Anthony.
She was preceded in death by son, Bruce; son-in-law, William Thorp; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane (Harvey) Walker; and special friend, Ray Perry.
No service is scheduled per Bea’s wishes. Final resting place is Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum in Saginaw.
Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Mary Johnston Memorial Library or the Standish Animal Shelter.
