Evelyn did not lose her battle with cancer; she fought it every step of the way. Through years of chemo and radiation therapies, regardless of how poorly she felt, she would always rally her strength to fight another day. She was an example of a strong, independent woman who never quit.
Evelyn was born in May 1935 in Owosso, Mich. to Grace and Dallas Jackson. She married Dr. Warren Madison Clarke in July 1955. She was preceded in death by her husband; four children, Thomas Allen, Tara Sue, Tonia Linn, and Darla Suzanne; brother Larry Jackson; her parents and two stepfathers.
Both long-time avid bowlers, Evelyn and Warren co-founded GLC, Inc. in 1958. After more than 50 years of serving the Flint community, the store closed its doors in 2011.
Evelyn loved to cook, crochet, sew, and read and could often be found with either a project or book by her side. She was a long-time contributor to many causes and charities throughout her life. She was very active with the Flint Osteopathic Hospital Auxiliary, including serving as President in 1971-72. While in Michigan, Evelyn attended the Duffield United Methodist Church and participated in many of the women’s group activities there.
Evelyn is survived by three children, Debra Bonter, Diane (Don) Domick, and Denise (John) Summers; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
