Chief William "Bill" Lee Miller, age 80, of Swartz Creek, Michigan. Passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his home. Bill was born September 22, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to William & Leota (Purdy) Miller. He married Darlene Lydia (Barham) Miller, December 22, 2001, in Gaines Twp, Michigan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene; children: Quinn (Jeff) Ponder, Eric (Ally) Byrne, Allison (Joe) Howe, Adam (Jayde) Byrne, Emery (Angela) Byrne & Dane (Andrea) Baxter; grandchildren; Kayla (Vincent), Kara, Connor, Allason, Amaya, Lawsen, Annabell, Darren, Eliza, Anasten, Gabriella, Gabriel, Isaac, Isabella, Kennedy, Gentry, Isaiah & Daelen; great grandchildren: Vivian & Jayce; sister, Sylvia Forbes; parents-in-law, Jane (George) Gugino & Bob (Ruby) Barham; sisters-in-law: Diane (John) Oates & Beth (Michael) Kross; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and son, Billy Miller.
Bill was an amazing man, he touched so many lives and lived a full happy successful life. He was both a BAD ASS and a HARD ASS, but every person he met he called "friend".
He loved FAST OLD cars, he enjoyed racing and was a part of Car Clubs from (1955-1986), Sports Car Club of America- Formula V&F Club and Drag Racing, B-Gas, B-Dragster, A-Fuel, A-Fuel Dragster.
He worked for General Motors (1960-1998),AC Spark Plug 1960, Supervision 1965, General Supervisor 1972, Engineering 1984; and served in several divisions at AC. He retired after 38 years in 1998, as an Engineer, Senior Manufacturing Process and Tool project Engineer.
The Fire Industry was his passion (1979-2015) Feb 15, 1980 GTFD Fire Chief; Aug 1982-2018 Instructor for Michigan FF Training Counsel Cert in OF1, OF2, OF3; Fire Academy; Life Member of Genesee County Fire Chief Assoc.; President in 1984; Chief of the Year three times; and chaired many committees.
He also loved being with Police Department; Reserve Officer for Gaines Twp., one year; Gaines Village seven years; Lieutenant on the Reserve Officers for Argentine for four years; and he wrote the training program.
He was a part of clubs too: Swartz Creek Historical Society, Michigan Fire Service Instructor Assoc., Michigan Fire Fighter Assoc., Michigan Fire Chief Assoc., International Assoc. of Arson Investigating.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 12:00pm until 8:00pm with a 6:00pm funeral service, at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Grand Blanc, Michigan
