Betty Campbell passed away in the early morning of November 25, 2024 surrounded by her family. She left behind letters for her children and grandchildren. Her family has chosen to write her a letter in response.
To our beloved Mom and Grammie,
You are the heart of our family, always putting us first. Your love, generosity, and unwavering support knows no bounds. You are the strongest woman we know—strong-willed, fiercely independent, and true to yourself.
You have worked tirelessly to create wonderful memories for us, from: family vacations in Florida, a millennium cruise, international trips for our 16th birthdays, to epic progressive Christmases where you blessed everyone with more presents than we could ever dream of.
You live life to the fullest and are always up for an adventure. You have explored the world with friends and family, embracing new experiences – whether it was riding donkeys in Greece, traversing the desert on camels in Morocco, watching the sunrise from the top of a volcano in Maui, or relaxing in a mountain hot spring.
While you are often found jet setting or immersing yourself in all types of social endeavors, you find just as much pleasure in the simple things – spending time with family, watching sunsets on the beach, listening to live music, or savoring a scoop (or two) of ice cream.
You are a force to be reckoned with. Anyone who underestimates you quickly learns their mistake—nothing fuels your determination more than even a hint of doubt. If you are lucky, you stay on her good side. Her children can’t always claim that, but her grandchildren? They always can.
You are a fierce competitor and always a fun time. At 81 years old, you outplayed 31 younger women to win the Ladies President’s Cup golf tournament at Warwick Hills. You always have your tiles and quarters ready for a game of Mahjongg at a moment’s notice. With every visit you have a new game to play – complete with rules you occasionally make up.
There was so much life in your years, and your adventurous, loving spirit will forever guide us. We’ll look for the hearts and angels you told us about and know that you are always with us.
Always yours,
Your children: Tami (Bob) O’Donnell, Todd (DeAnn) Campbell, Tom (Kim) Campbell
And your grandchildren: Alex Welch, Bryan (Emily) Campbell, Meredith Welch, and Sarah (Peter) Gajewski
