Virginia Lee Ward

Virginia was born on February 19th 1937 to Virginia and Lee Shultz of Akron, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Robert; three sons Steven, Patrick and Russell; and her sister Karen Nipper; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her Father, Lee; Mother, Virginia; and brother Dick.

The funeral service will be held December 16th 2019 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home with visitation from 1-2pm and the services following. In lieu of flowers, Virginia requested donations be made at Woundedwarriorproject.org.

Virginia was born in Akron, Ohio and following graduation from high school enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1955. She attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, initial training at Keesler Air Force Base and her operational assignment was at Roslyn Air Force Station in Long Island, New York. This is where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob), were married and gave birth to their first son, Steven Dale.

Virginia received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1957. As a military spouse, she and Bob continued their journey with the Air Force over the next eighteen years. She made every house a home: Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Billings, Montana; Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts; The Philippine Islands; Orlando, Florida; and West Germany. Her second son, Patrick Michael was born in Akron, Ohio in 1958 and her third son, Russell Lee was born in Orlando, Florida in 1968.

In 1975 following 20 years of service, Bob retired from the Air Force and the family settled into their Orlando home. Virginia and Bob began their second careers with Mid Florida Technical Institute and Sun Banks of Florida. In 1999, both retired and enjoyed their passion, traveling.

Virginia visited numerous places throughout the United States including Hawaii and Alaska as well as many cruises to the Caribbean and Central America. She loved to spend time in their mountain cabin overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Virginia Lee Shultz Ward…loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. Quiet, strong, forgiving, and opinionated when necessary. A gifted artist and writer who always knew what to say and how to say it. She leaves behind a treasure of memories for her family and friends.
