He was born July 5, 1930 in Orlando, Florida to the late Warren & Jewel (Herrington) Willis; and met his beloved Irene when he was in the service. They married February 3, 1951 at the young ages of 18 and 20, and would have celebrated 65 years together in the coming year.
Extremely proud of his country and his time in the Army, Travis became skilled in dealing with radar, which led to his later career in electronics. He loved his work & rose to engineering supervisor.
Travis was an adventurer – an avid hunter, fisher and he especially loved camping. He read his Bible by the campfire every day, and changed countless lives serving as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts & even Girl Scouts! He built their Umatilla home with his own two hands, and created beautiful woodworking gifts for his daughters-in-law and granddaughters.
Travis’s home always flies the American flag, and today it flies at half-mast in his honor.
He is predeceased by his folks, his dear sister Letha Bennett and his brother Warren “Buddy” Willis.
Travis is survived by his bride, Irene; 3 sons Travis Lee Willis (Sherry), Craig Stephen Willis (Pamela) and William Alexander Willis (Nahid); grandchildren Krisie Willis, Travis Shane Willis (married to Julia), Amber Henry (married to Mark), Ashley Mellette (married to Scott), Eli Willis, and Omied Willis; and great grandchildren Kodie Mellette, Brandi Mellette, Chelsea Willis, Colton Mellette, Hunter Mellette, Megan Mellette, Emily Henry, and Jonathan Henry. There are also 5 great great grandchildren. In these families, descending from and including Grandmom and Pop (Irene & Travis), there are nearly 220 years of marriage; a legacy of love spanning the generations.
