Mrs. Susan Althea (Petty) Simpson, 75, lived in Groveland, Florida, went to her heavenly home on March 21, 2024. Susan is preceded in death by her older brother Francis David Petty (2022) and her husband William Joseph Simpson. (1997).
Susan was born September 22, 1948 to June Maxine Bowen and Francis Duquesne Petty and raised in Gahanna, Ohio. After the birth of her 2nd son, she moved to Kissimmee, Fl. and later retired in Groveland. Susan is survived by her 3 sons Christopher David Gullion, Kevin Stanton Gullion & Terry Duquesne Lampo, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, her younger brother Michael Petty and her best-friend/“sister” Annette Moore and numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Susan dedicated her life to teaching children. As a school teacher, having taught for more than 40 years Susan worked with every grade level from Preschool Age through 12th grade. She also owned and operated 3 child-care facilities and a private school. She was a strong advocate in the importance of education and believed learning never ends. While raising her 3 boys, Susan pursued a 2nd Bachelor’s Degree and then earned a Master’s Degree in Education. As a strong-minded woman she believed in equality for everyone. She single-handedly raised her boys to be independent thinkers and encouraged them to discover their own unique individuality.
Susan was a passionate history buff and in her free time she enjoyed visiting historical sites and was an avid civil war reenactor.
Susan loves receiving flowers; however you may wish to honor Susan by making a donation to Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont where she received amazing care.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, FL. at 11:30AM with a Memorial Service immediately after at Noon. Interment to follow on site. Celebration of Life at Ale House Winter Garden.
