Rev. Roger R. Nicole, 95, of Longwood, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 11, 2010. Rev. Nicole was born December 10, 1915, a Swiss citizen, in Charlottenburg, Germany, the son of Albert and Bertha de Neufville Nicole. He married his loving wife, Annette Cyr Nicole, in June 18, 1946 and had 61 years of marriage before she died in February, 2008.
Rev. Nicole’s extensive education includes B.A., 1935 (Bachelier ès lettres classiques), Gymnase Classique, Lausanne; M.A., 1937 (Licence d’enseignement ès lettres classiques), Sorbonne, Paris; Graduate 1938, Institut Biblique, Nogent/Marne, near Paris; B.D., 1939; S.T.M., 1940; Th.D. (summa cum laude), 1943, Gordon Divinity School; Ph.D., 1967, Harvard University; D.D. 1978, Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois; Litt.S.D., 2006, Columbia Evangelical Seminary, Longview, Washington.
Rev. Nicole’s illustrious career included the following:
Pastor: Worcester and Manchaug French Baptist Churches, 1939-1946 and 1948-1956
Instructor and Associate Professor: Languages and Theology, Gordon Divinity School, 1944-1948.
Professor: Theology, Gordon Divinity School, 1946-1976. Andrew Mutch Professor of Theology, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, 1976-1985. Professor 1985-1986, Emeritus 1986 - present. Adjunct Professor of Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary , Orlando, 1989-2000, Emeritus 2000 - present.
