Robert McClanahan was an honorable man who was well respected and lived every aspect of his life with integrity. The joy of his life was his family. He was a faithful and loving husband to his wife Kathleen and a caring and doting father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Robert was born in the small, rural town of Hayti, Missouri on July 27, 1937 to parents Mancel and Mary McClanahan. Robert’s formative years were shaped in large part by his parents’ examples of hard work and respect for all people. After graduating from Hayti High in 1955, he joined the United States Air Force, partly motivated by his desire to see places around the world. After four years of honorable service, he returned to the states and met the love of his life. Shortly after meeting, Robert and Kathleen were joined in marriage on February 5, 1960, a marriage that would eventually last 57 wonderful years. On that day they truly became one, spending most of their time together. Out of their love they had 6 beautiful children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter whom he thought was the most beautiful little girl, bar none.
Most of Robert’s career was spent working for Florida Power Corporation. He worked a total of 37 years before enjoying an early and active retirement. After retiring, Robert enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and family, fishing, golfing, and travelling. He took many trips with his wife and grandchildren, the highlight being a trip to Europe to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were blessed to know him and love him. He will be truly missed.
