Linda (Lin) V. Larson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, September 24, 1941, to Gertrude E. and Walter Kenneth Van Duzer. Walter, Gertrude and Lin’s brother, Walt, preceded her in death. At 12 years of age she became a true Floridian when her family moved to Vero Beach. While in high school she excelled in swimming and was chosen to train and perform with the Vero Beach Dolphinettes. This award-winning synchronized swim team regularly performed in the Esther Williams Pool. Her recognition continued as a reigning Miss Vero Beach. When she moved to Orlando, she met her first husband, Morgan Goodrum Howard, Jr. (Sonny). They and their two children, Morgan Goodrum Howard, III (Skip) and Jennifer Elizabeth Howard (Hunt) resided in Winter Garden for many years. Lin was a voice major in college, but also played the piano, organ, flute, violin and trumpet. For many years she sang with the Messiah Choral Society and was awarded a 20-Year Pin as a member of The Bach Festival Choir of Winter Park. While in the Bach Choir she met her second husband, Ture E. Larson, a well-known teacher, organist and pianist. Lin and Ture enjoyed many music based travels singing abroad with the Bach Choir and The Cathedral Church of St. Luke Choir. Like her husband, she too was a member of the central Florida Chapter, American Guild of Organists (AGO), attending many regional and national conventions throughout the country. For over 30 years as the Administrative Assistant at Oakland Presbyterian Church, Oakland, Florida, her employment there was more than a job–-it was a very personal ministry to
which she felt called. Her devotion at the church was all-encompassing, giving full energy to the many facets of church administration and in taking a personal interest to all those with whom she came in contact. While at Oakland she sang in the church choir, played handbells and for a short time directed the children’s choir. For the past 12 years The Cathedral Church of St. Luke was her home church and where she sang in the choir the first ten years. Lin leaves behind Ture, her husband of 25 years, two children–-Skip and Jennifer, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. On Sunday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m., a memorial service will be held at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke, 130 North Magnolia, Orlando, FL 32801, 407-849-0680. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the music funds at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke or Oakland Presbyterian Church or the Scholarship Fund of the Central Florida
Chapter, American Guild of Organists. Please visit www.woodlawnfuneralhomegotha.com. Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, Gotha, FL. 407-293-1361.
