Evelyn Marks, originally from the beautiful island of St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of faith, service, and compassion. Growing up in a close-knit community where everyone knew and supported one another, Evelyn learned the importance of giving and helping others—a value she carried throughout her life.
Evelyn began her career as a nurse in Aruba before immigrating to the United States, where she wore many hats. However, the most fulfilling chapter of her professional journey was with the Presbyterian Church, USA, where she worked as a caseworker assistant and secretary in a senior service program until her retirement in 1985. During her time there, she brought her insights and compassion to her local church, helping to establish a senior citizens’ group and serving as its chairperson for five years.
Westminster Presbyterian Church in New York was Evelyn’s spiritual home for 37 years. She was a beacon of faith and inspiration, serving faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, moderator of the Presbyterian Women’s Group, a member of the Pastor Nominating Committee, and the Evangelism Committee. She touched countless lives through her visits to the sick, nursing homes, and those in need, always bringing the light of God with her. Evelyn’s commitment and leadership inspired many to renew their faith and deepened the sense of community.
In 1989, Evelyn relocated to Orlando to be closer to her daughter, Linda, and continued her journey of faith at Saint Paul’s Presbyterian Church. She embraced the new congregation, pouring her heart and soul into every endeavor, as she had always done. Evelyn spent over three decades at Saint Paul’s, extending her Christian walk through service and worship.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda Williams, and three cherished granddaughters: Nicole, Dana, and Allison. Her love and wisdom will continue to guide her great-grandchildren: Miles, Marcel, Bryant, and Sydney. She is also mourned by her beloved nieces Sandra, Yvette, Brenda, and Phyllis, as well as nephews Bouchi, Josie, Pedro, Tony, Junie, Glen, and a large, loving family of extended relatives and friends.
Evelyn’s unwavering faith and dedication to her family and community serve as an enduring testament to a life well-lived. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her strength, and the countless lives she touched through her ministry and love. Evelyn Marks was a true servant of the Lord, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
