He was born on April 2, 1936 to the late Manuel & Matilde (Lopez) Arribas and raised in Spain.
A man of many talents, Alfonso certainly lived life to the fullest leaving behind a remarkable legacy. From a young age, his ambition, creativity and charisma lead to a diverse scope of work, ranging from trapeze artistry to professional soccer, among others. Eventually, Alfonso mastered the 100-year-old family business in the ancient techniques of glass artistry in his hometown of La Coruña, Spain. Alfonso and his brother, Tomas, represented Spain as glass artisans in the New York World’s Fair in 1964, where they had a magical encounter with Walt Disney and impressed him with their craft. They were then invited to participate in Disneyland; and, in 1967, the Arribas Brothers began creating works of art in a small shop inside the Sleeping Beauty Castle. From these humble beginnings, their business eventually blossomed into what has become a signature Disney mainstay for over 50 years, with 19 locations around the world.
Although Alfonso's unwavering drive and ambition proved more than enough to accomplish all his professional goals, he was perhaps known more by his friends and family as the life of every party. He never turned down some fun, be it learning to fly a plane or playing tennis and golf with his friends. His family meant the world to him. His children fondly remember family barbecues, trips to the beach and traveling with him in Spain. He loved riddles and performing magic tricks for his grandchildren. His natural charm made an impression on everyone he met. His memory will forever be admired and honored by the many who knew him.
