Wes grew up on a farm in OK during the depression. He moved with his family to Wichita, KS where he graduated from North High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was recalled to service during the Korean War.
Wes married his high school sweetheart, Harriett Ellen Rose on December 23, 1943, just before he went into the Navy. They lived in California and Hawaii before returning to Wichita to raise their family of three boys.
Wes moved his family to Tempe, AZ in 1959 for a job opportunity as a machinist with Air Research. He was a self-taught Master Machinist. In the 1970’s, Wes and Harriett, assisted by their sons, built an A-frame cabin from the ground up in the Clear Creek Pines subdivision in Happy Jack, AZ. They retired and lived there for many happy years. Wes enjoyed being a handyman, helping neighbors, and creating many things from wood, including furniture, clocks, and keepsakes. He also enjoyed leather crafting. He was very active and high-ranking in both the Masonic Lodge and Shriners organization.
Wes was an amazing father and husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a fulltime caretaker for Harriett for over eight years after she suffered a debilitating stroke. He lent a hand to all who needed help. He became a father figure to some of his nieces and nephews when their fathers weren’t in their lives. He taught his boys how to be gentlemen and to love family and live to the fullest. He adored all of his grandkids and they adored him. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
