Leon was one of six children born to a family of migrant cotton pickers. He and Marjorie raised six children, 3 boys and 3 girls, together. Everybody knew he had a soft spot for his girls, even his sons! He would always tell his children, “I loved you first.” Leon was amazing at cooking “Okie” food. He could make something amazing out of almost nothing. His family cherished sharing his meals around the table. Leon was a devout Minister of the Gospel for over 60 years. He also worked for over 60 years as an independent paint contractor. Leon’s proudest accomplishment was his family. His face would shine with happiness and pride whenever they would visit him.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Leon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie J. Poindexter, daughters Deborah (Raun) Poindexter, Bobbie Joe (Butch) Poindexter, and Jennifer (Jeff) Craner, sons Leon Poindexter, Brian Poindexter, and Michael Poindexter, sister Norma and brother Charles. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), and two great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 9AM on Wednesday, July 5 at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (Goodyear, Arizona). The funeral service will follow at 10:30AM.
