It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence James Romano Jr. on December 17, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on December 12, 1932, in New York, Larry was the cherished son of Lawrence and Nellie Romano. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and his life was defined by his love for his family, his country, and community.
In 1955, Larry married Rose and together they raised five children. He was also a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Larry’s sense of duty and service to his country began when he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Staff Sergeant from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean War. Following his military service, Larry’s work led him to many first of a kind projects including the Space Shuttle and B1 Bomber projects. His contributions on these projects were a testament to his dedication and passion for technology.
In addition to his professional achievements, Larry was deeply committed to his community and was an active supporter of the American Heart Association.
Larry had a love for sports and led an active lifestyle. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and water sports. He was especially involved in the Golf League at work, where he served as chairman and achieved a memorable Hole-in-One in 1983.
In 1993, Larry and Rose retired to Arlington, Texas, where they enjoyed many years of travel and adventure, creating cherished memories on cruises through North America and the Caribbean.
Larry’s legacy is one of love, service, and dedication. His devotion to his family, his country, and his community will never be forgotten. While his physical presence is no longer with us, his memory and the values he instilled in his family and friends.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on December 27, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Arizona.
May he rest in peace, knowing the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
