John grew up in Indiana. He attended ISU before joining the service. John was a Sgt in the US Army. In 1967-68 he served in the Vietnam War. He served as a free Mason, belonged to the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine. He also belonged to many Veteran organizations. In 2021, he was presented the remaining of his earned medals by the Congressman of California. He worked for several years at the L.A. Times as a pressman. John had several hobbies he enjoyed such as making Veteran keychains, riding his motorcycle, driving his Corvettes, and golfing.
John will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends as a loving brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.
John is survived by his wife, Middie Kerins; son, John (Kimberly) Kerins II; sisters, Carol Payne, Margaret Russard, and Sharon Baker; and his brothers Bill Kerins, Donnie Kerins, Ronnie Kerins, and Gary Kerins. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Stacia (Tremain) Nunez and their children Kaydence and Tremain, Jr., Justin (Alisha) Kerins, and their children Chase, Charlotte, and Carson, and Jordan (Melanie) Kerins and their child Nixon.
