Joseph John Bizjak, age 79 of Erie, PA died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in Goodyear, AZ. Joe was visiting his kids in Phoenix, AZ when he passed. He was born on November 18, 1838 in Cleveland, OH to Joseph and Mary (Jevinkar) Bizjak.
Joe was a graduate of Cleveland Saint Joseph High School where he played football. He served in the National Guard Reserves. Prior to his retirement he was employed at Erie Bearings Company and Kaman Industrial Technologies.
Joe was an avid sports fan. He was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavs and Indians. He was thrilled to be able to attend several Cleveland Indians Spring Training games while visiting Phoenix. He was also a Gannon basketball season ticket holder for over 40 years and a devoted fan of both the women and men’s basketball teams. But his greatest support and love was for his grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Big Joe” by his grandchildren, he faithfully attended all their sporting events. He was their most ardent fan, even as they turned into adults.
Joe is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Dolores DeSantis Bizjak; two sons, Joe and wife Diane of Phoenix, AZ, and John and his wife Lisa, of Main Beach, Queensland, Australia; grandchildren, Nicholas, Erica, and Ava Bizjak; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Bizjak and his brother, Larry. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time to be determined.
